Treasury
is one of the world’s most popular Image Network management tools.
It supports either single or multiple PC based image acquisition stations.
These stations can use any system to acquire their images - scanners, TV
cameras with associated framegrabber cards, or in a scientific or medical
application, they might be on-line to an instrument such as an electron
microscope which gives digital images directly. Instead of storing the images
themselves, which can take up large amounts of space on disk, particularly
high resolution color images, Treasury uses a system of 'pointers' to image
files (called 'external file references') to tell it where a particular
image is located. This makes maximum usage of the full network’s capabilities,
by allowing images to be stored and accessed at any location across the
network. |
It also makes Treasury a highly flexible network management
application, with different storage options available. The image data need not
even be directly on-line to Treasury - images stored in a cabinet of floppy
or optical disks anywhere else can be referenced just as easily. If preferred,
it is possible to implement a central server with high capacity where the images
will be stored. Companion software allows the full resolution images acquired
by the stations to be automatically inserted into the Treasury database as they
are captured.
